Greek Presidency health priorities to be presented at the European Parliament by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis (Brussels, 22.1.14)

The Greek Minister of Health Spyridon – Adonis Georgiadis will present tomorrow, 22 January, the Greek Presidency’s priorities in the health area before the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety of the European Parliament (ENVI).

First meeting of the Cooperation Council between the European Union and the Republic of Iraq

The Cooperation Council between the European Union (EU) and the Republic of Iraq held its  first meeting in Brussels on 20 January 2014. The meeting was opened by the High  Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Catherine Ashton, who headed the EU  delegation. Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece, Dimitrios Kourkoulas, was also present  and chaired the remaining part of the meeting. The Iraq delegation was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E.Mr. Hoshyar Zebari.

Minister for Rural Development and Food A. Tsaftaris to present the priorities of the Greek Presidency to the competent EP Committees (21-22.01.2014)

Minister for Rural Development and Food, Prof. Athanassios Tsaftaris, will be in Brussels on 21 and 22 January 2014 to present to the AGRI, PECH and ENVI Committees of the European Parliament the priorities of his Ministry during the Greek Presidency.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos to chair the 1st EU Intergovernmental Conference with Serbia (Brussels, 21 January 2014)

On Tuesday, 21 January, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos will chair the first meeting of the EU Intergovernmental Conference with Serbia. This meeting will mark the opening of Serbia’s negotiations for accession to the EU.

Trade priorities of the Greek Presidency to be presented by deputy Development & Competitiveness minister, Mitarachi, in Brussels (20-21.1.2014)

Deputy Minister for Development and Competitiveness, Notis Mitarachi, in his capacity as President of the Council of the European Union - Foreign Affairs (Trade), is visiting Brussels on Monday, 20 January and Tuesday, 21 January, to present the priorities of the Hellenic Presidency of the EU to the competent INTA Committee of the European Parliament and to meet with Commissioner for Trade, Karel De Gucht.

Presentation of Greek Presidency priorities in the Audiovisual field at the European Parliament CULT Committee (Brussels, 21 January 2014)

The Deputy minister attached to the Prime Minister & Government Spokesperson responsible for Audiovisual Affairs (TV, radio, internet), Simos Kedikoglou, will present tomorrow, Tuesday 21 January, at the CULT Committee of the European Parliament, the relevant priorities of the Greek Presidency of the EU Council.

A European Union workshop entitled 'Enhancing the European Disaster Response Capacity: Joint/Multi-National Modules' is hosted by the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 January 2014, at Zappeion Megaron, in Athens. It is the first workshop taking place after the entry into force (as of 1.1.2014) of the new EU legislation on the European Civil Protection Mechanism.

17th Meeting of the EU-Russia PPC on Freedom, Security and Justice in Moscow

Progress in the implementation of the EU-Russia Roadmap for the Common Space of Freedom, Security and Justice, visa and migration issues, fight against terrorism and transnational crime, such as illicit drug-trafficking, corruption and trafficking of human beings, access to justice and judicial cooperation were among the issues discussed at the 17th Meeting of the EU-Russia Permanent Partnership Council on Freedom, Security and Justice, which was held in Moscow on 17 January.

Minister of Finance, Yannis Stournaras, at the European Parliamentary Week / ECON meeting in Brussels

Minister of Finance, Yannis Stournaras, will visit Brussels next week, in order to participate on Wednesday, 22 January, in the Interparliamentary Conference on Economic Governance of the European Union, which is co-organised and co-presided by the Hellenic Parliament and the European Parliament. The President of the ECOFIN will address the concluding plenary session and will exchange views with the members of the European and national parliaments (12:00 – 13:10).
