EU and US strengthen dialogue on JHA issues

Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, Charalampos Athanasiou and Minister of Public Order and Citizen Protection, Vassilis Kikilias chaired, on 25 June, in Athens, an EU–US Ministerial meeting on Justice and Home affairs (JHA). A number of issues critical to the European Union and the United States were discussed, such as data protection, migration, terrorism and judicial cooperation.

Coreper agrees on a General Approach on the European Long-Term Investment Funds (ELTIFs)

During today’s (25.06.2014) Coreper meeting, Ambassadors of the 28 EU Member States agreed on a General Approach on the European Long-Term Investment Funds (ELTIFs) Regulation. This agreement constitutes the negotiating mandate for the incoming Italian Presidency to conduct trilogues with the European Parliament.

Last General Affairs Council under Greek Presidency concludes in Luxembourg (24.06.2014)

The last General Affairs Council under the Greek Presidency, chaired by Greek Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos, took place today (24.06.2014) in Luxembourg.
 
The Council decided to grant Albania EU candidate status, subject to endorsement by the European Council.

Greek Presidency excels in gender equality issues

The Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU is drawing to a close with flying colours in the area of gender equality, having promoted gender mainstreaming across the board of EU policies.

General Affairs Council (Luxembourg, 24.06.2014)

The General Affairs Council, chaired by Greek Deputy Prime Minister and  Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos, is taking place today (24.06.2014) in Luxembourg.

The Council will discuss enlargement and the stabilisation and association process, in particular whether to grant candidate status to Albania. It will then turn to the Presidency report on the implementation of European Council conclusions, before discussing the preparations for the upcoming European Council meeting on 26-27 June, on the basis of draft conclusions.

Foreign Affairs Council discussed Ukraine, Syria, Libya and Iraq (Luxembourg, 23.06.2014)

A Foreign Affairs Council meeting, chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, took place today (23.06.2014) in Luxembourg.

The Council took stock of developments in Ukraine, on which several conclusions were adopted. Ministers also exchanged views on Libya and discussed the latest developments in Syria and Iraq.

A press conference was held at the end of the meeting.

Last ECOFIN under Greek Presidency: Mission accomplished

At today’s ECOFIN meeting, the last one under the Greek Presidency, a political agreement was reached on the Commission’s proposal to amend the Parent Subsidiaries Directive (2011/96/EU) on the common system of taxation applicable in the case of parent companies and subsidiaries of Member States.
