Informal Meeting of Chief Veterinary Officers

During the Greek Presidency will be held as usual in every Presidency, the informal meeting of the Chief Veterinary Officers of the European Union.  The items on the agenda will be amongst the following:

- Discussion on the Presidency compromise proposal for the revision of the legislation on the Animal Health Law.
­- Discussion  about the pending proposal of European Commission for rabies and the introduction and movement of pet animals, because of illegal imports of animal rabies carriers from the Third Countries.
­- Issues of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) for a common position for the diseases included in the Code under review and then the Presidency will support the common European positions in the meeting of the OIE on 25-30 May 2014. Further on, it will be a discussion of the OIE’s strategy for the years 2016-2020 and the actions to be undertaken.
­- Discussion will be held on topics concerning imports and exports of live animals and animal food to and from Third Countries, particularly focusing issues with Russia following the recent decision to ban the export of live pigs from all EU Member States because of the outbreak of African swine fever in a part of Lithuania.
