Launch Conference: "Violence against Women"

Wednesday, 05 March 2014

Justus Lipsius, Rue de la Loi 175, Brussels

The results of the biggest ever violence against women survey in the EU will be presented by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), at a launch conference held under the auspices of the Greek Presidency and in cooperation with the Secretariat General of the Council of the EU, on 5 March 2014. The event will bring together around 250-300 representatives from EU institutions and bodies, civil society, national governments and parliaments, and many more.

The survey findings are based on interviews with 42,000 women across the EU’s 28 Member States. Women were asked about their experiences of physical, sexual and psychological violence, including incidents of intimate partner violence (‘domestic violence’) as well as the consequences of such violence. The survey also covered experiences of stalking, sexual harassment, their childhood experiences of violence and the role played by new technologies in women’s experiences of abuse.
