Greek Health Minister to participate at Health Inequalities Conference (Brussels, 23.01.14)

The Greek Minister of Health, Spyridon-Adonis Georgiadis, representing the Greek Presidency of the EU, will participate at the Final Conference on “Addressing Health Inequalities: 2014 and Beyond - Building Cohesion and Strengthening Health for Growth”, taking place in Brussels, on 23.1.2014.

The conference is the result of a three-year EU Joint Action on health inequalities, carried out under the EU health programme. The Joint Action was based on the EC communication “Solidarity in Health” supported by a European Parliament resolution and related Council conclusions. It was designed to raise awareness, promote the exchange of information and knowledge, identify “best practices” across Europe and Regions and facilitate targeted policies to tackle health inequalities.

The event will aim at (a) assessing the progress in addressing health inequalities in the EU and consider further action, (b) present the results of the Equity Action programme and their potential contribution to implementation, and (c) use the lessons from Equity Action and other Member States activity to improve the effectiveness in addressing health inequalities in the future.
