EU and US strengthen dialogue on JHA issues

Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, Charalampos Athanasiou and Minister of Public Order and Citizen Protection, Vassilis Kikilias chaired, on 25 June, in Athens, an EU–US Ministerial meeting on Justice and Home affairs (JHA). A number of issues critical to the European Union and the United States were discussed, such as data protection, migration, terrorism and judicial cooperation.

Greek Presidency reaches agreement on Data Protection, Insolvency (Luxembourg, 06.06.2014)

During the last formal Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council under the Greek Presidency, EU Justice Ministers achieved a partial general approach on the Data Protection Regulation. The Council also agreed on a Regulation modernising cross-border insolvency rules and on strengthening procedural safeguards for children involved in criminal proceedings. The meeting on 6 June in Luxembourg was chaired by Greek Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, Charalampos Athanasiou.

EU strategy for combating terrorism, Task Force Mediterranean and "smart borders" discussed by JHA ministers today (5.6.2014)

The future of the European Cooperation in the field of Justice and Home Affairs was discussed in today's Justice and Home Affairs Council, chaired by the Minister of Public Order and Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Dendias. Plus, the Alternate Minister of Interior Leonidas Grigorakos and the Minister of Justice Charalmbos Athanasiou presented the work programme in the area of ​​Home Affairs.

EP adopts proposal for a Directive on conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals in the framework of an intra-corporate transfer

On 15 April 2014, the Plenary of the European Parliament approved the Report on the proposal for a Directive of the EP and the Council on the conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals in the framework of intra-corporate transfer presented by the competent Rapporteur and member of the LIBE Committee, Salvatore Iacolino.

Greek Presidency marks International Roma Day

On the occasion of the International Roma Day on 8 April, Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, Charalampos Athanasiou underlined the EU’s commitment to the protection of Roma rights.

“The Greek Presidency affirms its determination to prevent and combat discrimination against Roma in all its forms and to facilitate the inclusion of Roma in the European societies”, Minister Athanasiou said.

Greek Presidency priorities’ course of implementation on justice and home affairs issues: Minister of Interior informs the LIBE Committee

The minister of Interior Giannis Michelakis, addressed the Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament (LIBE) yesterday, 1 April 2014, in Brussels. The minister presented the state of affairs regarding the implementation of the priorities of the Greek Presidency, as well as the outcome of the recent JHA Council that took place on 3-4 March 2014.
