Greek Presidency priorities on legal migration presented at EP LIBE Committee

The Minister of Interior, Ioannis Michelakis, presented the priorities of the Greek Presidency in relation to current EU legislative developments in the field of legal migration before the Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament.

Amnesty International presents its recommendations to the Greek Presidency

As has been done at the start of previous presidencies, Amnesty International delivered today (21.1.2014) in Brussels its recommendations to the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU. Senior Executive Officer on Legal Affairs and Human Rights in the EU, Natacha Kazatchkine, presented the six-point human rights recommendations agenda to Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, Charalampos Athanasiou.

The General Secretary for Civil Protection of the Greek Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection, Patroklos Georgiadis, will be in Brussels today (21.1.2014), to present before the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), the priorities of the Greek Presidency in the field of Justice and Home Affairs, within the jurisdiction of his Ministry.

“Enhancing the European Disaster Response Capacity: Joint/Multi-National Modules” Workshop (Athens, 21-22.1.2014)

A European Union workshop entitled 'Enhancing the European Disaster Response Capacity: Joint/Multi-National Modules' is hosted by the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 January 2014, at Zappeion Megaron, in Athens. It is the first workshop taking place after the entry into force (as of 1.1.2014) of the new EU legislation on the European Civil Protection Mechanism.

17th Meeting of the EU-Russia PPC on Freedom, Security and Justice in Moscow

Progress in the implementation of the EU-Russia Roadmap for the Common Space of Freedom, Security and Justice, visa and migration issues, fight against terrorism and transnational crime, such as illicit drug-trafficking, corruption and trafficking of human beings, access to justice and judicial cooperation were among the issues discussed at the 17th Meeting of the EU-Russia Permanent Partnership Council on Freedom, Security and Justice, which was held in Moscow on 17 January.

The 4th Consortium Meeting of the EU-China Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Project took place in Athens today (14.1.2014) at the headquarters of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of Greece (the Greek National CP Authority) with the participation of high level representatives from the Project Partners.

Meeting of the Strategic Committee on Immigration, Frontiers and Asylum (SCIFA)

An informal 2-day meeting of the Strategic Committee on Immigration, Frontiers and Asylum, composed of higher-ranking officials (directors and general directors) is taking place at Zappeion Megaron on 14-15 January. The meeting is being held in view of the Justice and Home Affairs Council and the European Council next June. According to the meeting’s agenda, issues with regards to frontiers, immigration, legal immigration and the integration of third countries nationals will be discussed.

Greek Minister of Justice Charalampos Athanassiou at the EU - Western Balkans Forum

“The EU must continue to actively support, financially or with other resources, judicial reform in the Western Balkans”, noted Greek Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights Charalampos Athanassiou during a EU-Western Balkans Ministerial Forum of Justice and Home Affairs, which concluded on 20 December in Budva, Montenegro under the auspices of the Lithuanian EU Presidency.
