Migratory pressures, Europol/Cepol and future developments among the issues discussed at today’s JHA Council

The future of the European Cooperation in the field of Justice and Home Affairs was discussed in today's Justice and Home Affairs Council of the European Union. The Council was chaired by the Minister of Public Order and Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Dendias and by the Minister of Interior Yannis Michelakis, who presented the work program in the area of Home Affairs.

Frontex: Agreement in the EP on the rules for the surveillance of the external sea borders

The Greek Presidency expresses its full satisfaction regarding the agreement reached with the European Parliament on a draft regulation establishing rules for the surveillance of the external sea borders in the context of operational cooperation coordinated by the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the member states of the EU (FRONTEX).

Member States in favour of Directive protecting the Euro and other currencies against counterfeiting

In the Permanent Representatives Committee (COREPER II) the Member States confirmed the political agreement for a Directive protecting the Euro and other currencies against counterfeiting by criminal law.

Council adopts directive on third-country seasonal workers

The Council adopted today without discussion a directive on the conditions of entry and stay of third-country nationals for the purpose of seasonal work. Member states will need to transpose the directive within two and a half years after publication in the Official Journal.

Good News for SMEs: Presidency secures agreement on the Regulation creating a European Account Preservation Order

In the Permanent Representatives Committee (COREPER II) the Member States approved, on 5 February, the compromise text regarding the Proposal of the Regulation creating a European Account Preservation Order. This allows for a first reading agreement, after the formal voting in the European Parliament and the Council.

Coreper approved, on behalf of the Council, a compromise reached with the European Parliament on a regulation amending Council Regulation 539/2001
