Foreign Affairs Council discussed Ukraine, Syria, Libya and Iraq (Luxembourg, 23.06.2014)

A Foreign Affairs Council meeting, chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, took place today (23.06.2014) in Luxembourg.

The Council took stock of developments in Ukraine, on which several conclusions were adopted. Ministers also exchanged views on Libya and discussed the latest developments in Syria and Iraq.

A press conference was held at the end of the meeting.

Third European Union - League of Arab States Foreign Affairs Ministerial Meeting adopts Declaration

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union (EU) and of the League of Arab States (LAS) gathered in Athens, on 10-11 June, for the Third Ministerial Meeting between the EU and LAS.

Foreign Affairs Council (Development) (Brussels, 19.05.2014)

The Foreign Affairs Council (Development), chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, took place in Brussels, today (19.05.2014).  The Council exchanged views on the preparation of a new post-2015 framework, while Ministers took stock of the ongoing work at UN level and discussed the EU's role in the process.

Foreign Affairs Council (12.05.2014)

The crisis in Ukraine was high on the agenda of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC), starting at 9.30 (CET) on Monday 12 May in Brussels, chaired by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton. Ministers took stock of ongoing work and adopted conclusions.

The Council turned to the state of play in the Middle East peace process, while, over lunch, there was an exchange of views on the EU's neighbourhood policy with countries in both eastern and southern Europe.

A press conference took place at end of the meeting.

Foreign Affairs Council – Trade Issues (Brussels, 8.5.2014)

A Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Trade issues took place in Brussels today (8.5.2014), chaired by Greek Deputy Minister of Development and Competitiveness, Notis Mitarachi. The agenda focused on progress in negotiations with the EU’s key trading partners, notably, Canada, Japan and the US. The Greek Presidency has set as one of its key priorities the promotion of growth and jobs and these agreements, once concluded, are expected to contribute significantly to this goal.

Recent developments in external trade relations of the EU on the agenda of the Meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC - Trade)

The Meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council concerning Trade is taking place in Brussels on May 8th, chaired by the Greek Deputy Minister of Development and Competitiveness, Notis Mitarachi.

The Council will take note of progress on the remaining technical issues to be resolved on a comprehensive economic and trade agreement with Canada.

It will discuss implementation by Japan of commitments on the elimination of non-tariff barriers in the context of negotiations on a free trade agreement.

DPM and FM Venizelos’ statement on the agreement reached at the quadrilateral meeting (U.S., Russia, EU, Ukraine) in Geneva on Ukraine

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos made the following statement on behalf of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union:

“The points agreed on in Geneva are an important first step toward de-escalating the situation and shaping the conditions for overcoming the crisis in Ukraine.

What is important now is the conscientious implementation of everything agreed upon, so that a climate of trust and a sense of security can be restored on all levels.”

EU Defence ministers discuss Maritime Security Policy, Central African Republic & Ukraine

Defence ministers will meet today (15 April 2014) from 9.30 (CET) onwards, first as the European Defence Agency Steering Board, chaired by the High Representative as Head of the Agency.

The Council will convene from 10.30 (CET) and hear presentations on the proposed EU Maritime Security Strategy and the launch of the EU military operation in the Central African Republic.

The Foreign Affairs Council focused on the situation in Ukraine

Meeting in the Foreign Affairs Council, EU ministers focused on the recent uprise of violence in the eastern part of Ukraine.

Syria, Ukraine & Bosnia and Herzegovina on the FAC’s agenda (Monday, 14 April, Luxembourg)

The EU Foreign Affairs Council starts Monday 14 April at 12.30 (CET) and will be chaired by Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. 
 
The Council will assess developments in Ukraine, as well as EU-Russia relations, while over lunch, ministers will discuss developments related to the crisis in Syria and hold an in-depth exchange on Bosnia and Herzegovina.  The Council is set to adopt conclusions on these three items. The Middle East peace process and the recent elections in Afghanistan are also on the Council’s agenda.
