‘...And Justice for All?’ Fixing Social Inequalities in the EU

The European Union may be an economic giant with global clout but it has its own skeletons in the closet, particularly in the field of social justice and equality. Although inequalities had been declining, new challenges such as the current economic crisis and a demographic changes [ageing population] put a strain on Europe’s social foundations, posing a considerable threat to the social fabric.

Last EPSCO (Employment) Council concludes in Luxembourg (19.06.2014)

The last session of the Employment and Social Policy (EPSCO) Council under the Hellenic Presidency, chaired by the Minister of Labour, Social Security and Welfare, Ioannis Vroutsis, took place today (19.06.2014), in Luxembourg, and focused on European Semester related issues and the social dimension of the EU/EMU.

Council of EU Ministers of Health (EPSCO) (Luxembourg, 20.06.2014)

The Council of EU Ministers of Health, chaired by Greek Health Minister Makis Voridis, is taking place in Luxembourg on 20 June 2014.

The main items on the Council’s agenda will be the legislative proposals on medical devices, and in vitro diagnostic medical devices. The Ministers will take note of the progress achieved during the Greek Presidency, followed by a policy debate. The Council is due to adopt conclusions on “the economic crisis and healthcare”, and “nutrition and physical activity”.

E-Health Forum (Athens, 12-14.05.2014)

The eHealth Forum 2014, taking place, in the context of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU, at Athens Concert Hall, aims at functioning as a platform for the exchange of experience and “best practices”, creating opportunities and challenges for dynamic partnerships and innovative synergies between local government, public, social and academic institutions and organizations representing patients and health professionals.

Economic Crisis, migration and e-Health discussed at Informal Meeting of EU Health Ministers in Athens (29.4.2014)
