The negotiations with the European Parliament on a Single Resolution Mechanism for banks, the ECB quarterly report on the implementation of the Single Supervisory Mechanism, the adoption of the Commission’s Annual Growth Survey 2014 and an Alert Mechanism Report, the endorsement of the EU terms of reference in preparation for the G20 meeting in Sydney, the approval of the recommendations on the EU budget discharge 2012 as well as the priorities for the budget 2015 are the main topics of the ECOFIN Council on February 18 chaired by Greek Minister of Finance, Yannis Stournaras.

Statement by ECOFIN President Yannis Stournaras on European Parliament’s vote on SRM

We take note of the vote today by the European Parliament on the amendments to the SRM regulation.

The SRM is one of the key elements of Europe's banking union and a top priority for the Greek Presidency. All parties involved should now move ahead with reinforced vigour to adopt the legislation before the end of the parliamentary term, as called for by the European Council in October.

Unanimous political agreement within the Council of EU on the legislative package of own resources

Minister of Finance, Yannis Stournaras, will visit Brussels next week, in order to participate on Wednesday, 22 January, in the Interparliamentary Conference on Economic Governance of the European Union, which is co-organised and co-presided by the Hellenic Parliament and the European Parliament. The President of the ECOFIN will address the concluding plenary session and will exchange views with the members of the European and national parliaments (12:00 – 13:10).
